Donetta Myree (Roberts) Smith

December 21, 1938 ~ January 11, 2021 (age 82)


Donetta Myree Smith, 82, peacefully went home to be with the Lord our savior on January 11, 2021 after a short battle with cancer, where she was surrounded by her son and his family.

She was born on December 21, 1938 in Keyes, Oklahoma to Donald and Gladys Roberts. She was the second youngest of six children. 

Donetta was a 1956 graduate of Keyes High School in Keyes, Oklahoma and relocated to Alamogordo, NM in early 1957. On December 27, 1957, she married her true love, Billy Kenneth Smith.

They have three children; two daughters, Doretta L. Pesewonit and Kenita J.Tyler and one son, William K. Smith. 

Donetta was a full time homemaker and dedicated her life to her family. She lived her life through the simple pleasures of sewing, reading, cooking and baking everything from scratch. She loved seeing her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow and thrive through life’s milestones. She looked forward to attending and supporting her grandchildren’s birthdays, football, baseball, basketball, soccer and softball games, cheerleading competitions, pageants, school graduations, weddings and births of her great grandchildren. 

Survivors include, her only son, William K. Smith of Alamogordo, NM and daughter, Kenita J. Tyler, of Phoenix, AZ, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family members who loved her dearly. 

She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Roberts, her mother, Gladys Roberts, her husband, Billy K. Smith, and her eldest daughter, Doretta Pesewonit.

Her legacy will live in our hearts and minds everyday, she will be deeply missed by her family and all those who knew her.

A graveside service for Donetta Myree Smith will be held at Monte Vista Cemetery in Alamogordo, New Mexico on January 16, 2021 with Chuck Moon officiating. Due to the COVID Pandemic, attendance at the graveside is limited to 5 people. Please practice social distancing at all times. Thank you for adhering to the Department of Health mandate.

There are not enough words to fully express our heartfelt thanks for the love and support from Darlene Smith and to those who have also extended sympathy and kindness during this time of loss.
