Donald Chance Whiteside

Donald Chance Whiteside passed away on October 9, 2021 at his home surrounded by family after several months of battling dementia. He was born June 19, 1924 to Carrie and Glen Whiteside.

Don was a Presbyterian minister for 25 years serving in Texas, Missouri and New Mexico. He later taught special education in Alamogordo, NM, El Paso and Amarillo, TX. Don loved camping and fishing in his younger years. He enjoyed singing in the local barbershop quartet and the church choir at Bethel Baptist Church, where he was an active member. He took absolute joy in being involved with any venture that gave him the opportunity to help others. Anyone who had the privilege of meeting him was surely touched by his selflessness, kindness, generosity, and sense of humor. His love for his kids and their families was unmatched and he never let a day begin without first showering the love of his life with praises of how beautiful she is and how much he loves her. Don loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was the greatest example of a man who followed God and there's no doubt the angels rejoiced at his arrival.

Don was preceded in death by his stepson, Mike Foster. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Whiteside; daughter, Lesley Christien (Steve) of Forest Park, IL; two sons, Steve Whiteside (Juanita) and Jeffrey Whiteside (Pat); five grandchildren, Shannon Mikesell, Mike Whiteside, Drew Christien, Heather Dean, and Pamela Whiteside; along with 8 great grandchildren and 2 great-great granddaughters.

The memorial service for Donald Whiteside will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Bethel Baptist Church. 

The Whiteside family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements.
