Delfinio Sandoval, 84, peacefully passed away on December 6, 2021 in El Paso, Texas. He was born on May 6, 1937 in Pecos, NM to Telesfor and Rosalia Sandoval.
Delfinio attended the New Mexico School for the Visually Impaired, participated on the wrestling team, and trained as a certified massage therapist. He was a proud member of Immaculate Conception Church, attending Mass diligently and volunteering with the ICC Fiesta for many years. He also attended and volunteered at the Alamogordo Senior Center, regularly baking cookies for the senior attendees to enjoy, and was fondly referred to as “The Cookie Man”. Delfinio participated in the New Mexico Senior Olympics from 1994 - 2019, competing as a swimmer in several different events, as well as serving as a volunteer. He won many medals over those years, which gave him and his family tremendous pride and joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Telesfor and Rosalia Sandoval; one son, Vincent Sandoval; seven brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Donna Sandoval; three daughters, Esperanza Chacon, Kellie Glaze and Laura Ross; two sons, John Russell and J. Antonio “Tony” Sandoval; multiple grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, all who loved him dearly.
Cremation will take place and his ashes will be scattered in his beloved hometown of Pecos, NM in a private family ceremony on a later date to honor and celebrate his life.
Should friends desire, contributions may be made to NM Senior Olympics in his name.
