David Shjan Tomsik, 26, passed away unexpectedly on May 27, 2023, in Otero County, NM. He was born in West Bend, WI on September 4, 1996, to Jena Weaver (now Matise), and lived most of his life in southern and central New Mexico as well as Tuscan, AZ. He attended Tularosa Middle School and graduated high school in 2014 from Foothills High School in Albuquerque, NM.
David was adventurous and energetic from an early age. He fell in love with skateboarding at the young age of five and became accomplished in the sport throughout his teenage and adult years. He was an avid reader and liked video games. Additionally, he displayed a talent for drawing and other artwork from his youth, which he developed over the course of his life, including tattoos, street art and other sketch art. He designed and created many sketches for his friends and others. He loved cooking and spent many hours cooking and baking with his "GG", Dorothy Beaudoin, while growing up. His family and friends will always remember his extraordinarily outgoing personality and kind and generous spirit.
David is survived by his parents, James and Jena Matise of Alamogordo, NM; grandparents, Debbie and Robert Lucero of La Luz, NM, RoxeAnne and Pete Esquibel of Alamogordo, NM and Brian Matise of Aurora, CO; his great grandmother, Dorothy Beaudoin of La Luz, NM; sisters, Meagan Stewart of Ravenna, Ohio, Stefani Weaver of Fairborne, Ohio and Antonia Matise of Alamogordo, NM; brothers, Donovan Wenk of Ohio and Eric Matise of Alamogordo, NM; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Before passing away, he was working as a landscaper and tree remover in Tucson, AZ, and he had been discussing marriage with Alicia Najar of Tucson.
A Memorial service will be conducted by the family on Friday, June 30, 2023, at 7:00 pm at the Alamogordo Funeral Home Chapel, 2301 E First St, Alamogordo, NM. Family and friends are invited to the family home after services.
Rosary will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at 10:15 am at St. Jude Parish Catholic Church, 1404 College Ave. Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am, with Father Marcel Oknokwo, Celebrant, assisted by Deacon Pete Schumacher. Inurnment will immediately follow services at St. Jude Columbarium with reception to follow at St. Jude Parish Hall.
The family requests that donations of time or resources be made in David's memory to the Runners Refuge Homeless Shelter and Resource Center, located at 601 E Delaware Ave in Alamogordo, and can be reached through Mountain View Church at (575) 437-4626. Anyone who is struggling with depression or addiction, or experiencing a mental health crisis is encouraged to call or text "988" because it is never too late to find hope in any situation.
