David Thomas Macon, Jr., 92, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2023, at his home in La Luz, NM. He was born to Blanche Fontaine McRae and David Thomas Macon, Sr. in Birmingham, AL where lived until the age of 1 when his parents moved to Memphis, TN. At the age of 10, the family moved to Dallas, TX where he spent much of his life. In 1976, he moved to Nacogdoches, TX where he met his wife, Joyce. They moved to La Luz and built their home in 1986.
David, who liked to be called Tom, loved sports. He excelled in them in high school, college-SMU, and even in the military. After college, Tom served in the US Marine Corps and then began his profession as a salesman and building contractor. Tom enjoyed staying active and being physically fit. He practiced various martial art disciplines and enjoyed hiking the Sacramento Mountains. Wood crafting, reading, classic cars, and hunting kept him busy. Tom enjoyed spending time at home with his wife and dogs, and fishing trips with his closest friends. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents and his oldest son, David Thomas Macon, III.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years, Joyce Macon; his sons, Michael Richard Macon of Dallas, TX and Thomas Wayne Macon and wife Summer of Hesperus, CO; his daughter, Kathryn L Miller and husband Scott of Colorado Springs, CO; stepdaughter, Melanie Ann of Hotchkiss, CO; grandchildren, Brandon C Losey of Castle Rock, CO and Caleb Laramie Macon of Manteo, NC; as well of a host of friends.
The Macon family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home. A Memorial will be held at a later date at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alamogordo, NM.
