Daryl Gilmore Obituary

Daryl Gilmore, 92, passed from this life into the waiting arms of parents, brothers, sisters, friends, grandparents, and friends on Saturday, July 11, 2020 in Alamogordo, NM. He was born June 16, 1928 in Tularosa, NM.

He grew up in Tularosa NM, attending school there. He studied two years of music and business at UNM in Albuquerque becoming a classical pianist. Then he obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration degree at UTEP in El Paso, TX.

Daryl served in the U.S. Army in 1946 -1948, spending time in Korea and Japan. He lived in El Paso and Midland, Texas for years, working as a land surveyor and automobile dealer. He worked as a salesman for the Primrose Oil Company from 1976 until his retirement.

After retirement he pursued his lifelong interest as an avid photographer, winning many awards in that field using 35 mm and large-format cameras. He attended several large format camera workshops taught by famous photographers such as Ansel Adams. He was a member of Sun Country Camera Club in El Paso, TX and Midland Camera Club of Midland, TX, many of his photos of landscapes were displayed at the Museum of the Southwest in Midland, and he did a one man 53-print show at the Centennial Museum at UTEP. He was a professional and sold many of his photos. His family still enjoy and display his artwork today.

He loved the rich beauty of the mountains of southern New Mexico and the Tularosa Basin very much and took many artist-quality photographs in the area. He loved it so much, he bought a place to live in Mountain Park. It was there that he met and married Shirley in 2003, and found new fellowship in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He is predeceased by grandparents, Anson and Susan Gilmore and John and Sarah Linam, parents, Matt and Estelle Gilmore, and siblings: Matt Gilmore, Jr., Eloise Gilmore Graham, Allene Gilmore, Robert Gilmore, and Walter Gilmore.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Gilmore and step children, Roy, Jeana, Leesha, Robin, Billy III, and Johnny. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who loved him and will cherish his memory.

A graveside service for Daryl Gilmore will be held at 9:00 am, Thursday, July 16, 2020 at Fairview Cemetery in Tularosa, NM.

The Gilmore family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
