Darla Lavone Johnson, 68, of Sacramento, New Mexico passed away suddenly and unexpected on June 16, 2023. Darla was born on November 21, 1954, to Lloyd and Linda Garner in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Darla had two siblings, her older sister, Theresa, and younger brother, Carl.
Darla is survived by her brother Carl; her three sons, Carl Dean Nesbit, Daniel Ray Nesbit, Tracy James Nesbit; her grandchildren, Nathan, Matthew, Jonathon, Vanessa, Adam; and her great granddaughter, Eliana.
Darla lived a full and adventurous life. In her younger years she was a sharpshooter on the Long Beach Police Junior Rifle Team and a member of the Junior National Rifle Association. She excelled as a seamstress, designing and making the parade costumes for the Eddy County Sheriffs Posey. A true Flower Child, Darla’s green thumb was a special gift evident in her gardens and flowers. She could cook anything from scratch and raised all kinds of farm animals.
Darla married her high school sweetheart, Harold Dean Nesbit. She was one of the first women to work in the potash mines of Southeastern New Mexico, then moved on to receive her bachelor degree in electrical engineering. Starting her career in computer repair which lead to her dream job at Raytheon Corporation like her Father. Later she became a small business owner of the Sacramento Park Station, a grocery store, gas station and garage. Darla then went on to marry her late husband, Donald Johnson, and re entered the computer repair field with CMI in El Paso, Texas. Finally retiring to her mountain home in Sacramento, she spent her final days enjoying life with grandkids and making custom jewelry.
Darla loved her family and shared with them her wisdom, knowledge and love of music, motorcycles, fast cars, flowers, outdoor adventures, traveling, the simple things in life, as well as the finer things. She could fix anything from cars to home appliances to computers. Truly a remarkable woman. She was loved by many.
Darla’s friends and family are invited to her memorial service and celebration of life at the Weed Community Center in Weed, NM at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 29, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, due to remote location of services, the family request donations be sent to the go fund me link for final expenses .
