Catherine (Torres) Leon

Mrs. Catherine (Torres) Leon passed away peacefully on November 28, 2023, at the age of 87. Known by all as Katy, she is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Reyes Leon.

Katy was a loving mother to three sons, Michael Leon, Edward (Karen) Leon, and Victor (Cynthia) Leon.  She had nine grandchildren, Johnathan, Tina, Lisa, Lynda Joy, Anthony, Mychael, Andrew, Isaac, and Adrian.  She was also a proud and loving great grandmother to two great granddaughters and ten great grandsons.  Her youngest sister, Nancy Jo Ball also survives her. She leaves her dear nieces, nephews and loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Serafin and Nancy Torres, and her sisters, Mary, Helen, Carmen, and Rebecca.

Katy was born in Alamogordo, New Mexico on October 2, 1936, and graduated from Alamogordo High School in 1954.  She married Airman Reyes Leon in 1955 when he was stationed at Holloman AFB.  He was the love of her life.  Reyes and Katy created a legacy of love and taught their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren devotion and dedication.  She will be greatly missed and will remain in the hearts of her many beloved family members and friends forever.

Katy was an accomplished businesswoman and skilled artist.  She collaborated with her husband on many beautiful artistic creations, with roses and the Virgin of Guadalupe being central to many of their works.  Katy was an avid reader and was the good luck charm at the casino. She will be remembered as a wonderful cook, making tamales for many Christmases and countless burritos and tostadas for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Her elegance was complemented by her fashion sense, and she embraced modern technology.  Katy cherished her sisters and their families. She was one of six girls who all loved to sit together and chat, reminiscing about their early Chihuahuita days. She loved to have her family visit and kept a lifetime of pictures and photographs throughout her home.

Despite health challenges as a young mother, Katy persevered and took great care of her health.  Her family was blessed to have her in their lives for so many years.  She was a strong woman whose presence will continue to be felt in the lives of all of those who loved her.

Katy was a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where she, her husband and sons worshipped for many years.  Funeral services will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Thursday, December 7, 2023.  Visitation will be held at 9:30 AM, followed by Rosary at 10:30 AM. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM with Father Martin Cornejo, Celebrant.  A graveside ceremony will follow at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery.
