Burla Beatrice Adams, 84, a longtime Alamogordo resident passed away peacefully on (Juneteenth) Saturday, June 19, 2021 at her residence. She was the widow of Nathaniel “Nathan” W. Adams who passed away on December 4, 2020.
Burla was the daughter of the late Robert and Serena (Thomas) Richard. She was born on August 7, 1936 in Creston, Louisiana.
After moving to Alamogordo, New Mexico she obtained her General Education Diploma which was a proud accomplishment after so many years. She loved to walk for her daily exercise and never met a stranger.
Sister Adams professed her faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized at an early age. She was a member of Corinth Baptist Church of Alamogordo, NM. She served faithfully in her church as an usher. Her love for ushering extended to the New Hope District Association of New Mexico, Inc. as president under the leadership of Moderator, Pastor James E. Forney.
She met the love of her life and was united in marriage to Nathaniel “Nathan” W. Adams February 13, 1976. Two beautiful families were blended together in love.
Burla worked for New Mexico State University at Alamogordo. She retired in 2005 as a supervisor after 30 years in the custodial department.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; husband, Nathaniel “Nathan” W. Adams; her sons, Robert Lewis Valentine and James “Bubba” Richardson; daughter, Mary “Cookie” Alderman; brothers, Louis Charles Richard and Willie James Richard; one grandson, Romeo Solomon.
Burla leaves to cherish her memories, her step mother, Ethel Lee Richard of Alamogordo, NM; sons, Augustus Casey Combs (companion Barbara Molina) of Albuquerque, NM; Anthony Valentine of Alamogordo, NM; Michael Makowski (Pepipa) of Australia; daughter-in-law, Susan Richardson of California; brothers, Henry Richard (Jaranai) of Albuquerque, NM, Joe Louis Richard (Ruby) of Anaheim Hills, California; sister, Allie Mae Bates of Anaheim Hills, California; grandsons, Allan Sneed, Augustus Nathanial Combs, Casey Leonard Combs, Jason Threat, Anthony Derral Valentine; granddaughters, Drenda Sneed, and Heather Lee Combs; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and was blessed with countless friends whom she loved.
The family will greet friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Monday, June 28, 2021 at Alamogordo Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral services for Burla B. Adams will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, June 28, 2021 at Alamogordo Funeral Home Chapel, 2301 First Street, with Pastor James E. Forney of Corinth Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery.
