Aristeo "Killy" Holguin passed away peacefully at his home on December 4, 2025, in Alamogordo, NM surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Rincon, NM on April 22, 1936, to Ramon and Herminia Holguin and was raised in Hurley, NM where he graduated from Hurley High School in 1954.
After Graduation, Aristeo enlisted in the US Army spending most of his tour in Germany with the 2nd Armored Division. After his enlistment, he came home and used his GI Bill to attend New Mexico Tech for two years, coming back to Hurley and going to work with Kennecott Copper Corporation as an electrician. Aristeo had enlisted in the Army because the Air Force recruiter was not around. So in 1961, he enlisted in the US Air Force where he served 27 years going to Iceland, Vietnam, and Saudi Arabia. His final assignment was Hollowman AFB in Alamogordo where he made his home.
Aristeo married Graciela Melgar in 1967 and they were married for 30 years until her passing in 1997 having no children. In 2001, Aristeo married Elizabeth "Betty" Strawn and they were married for 14 years her passing in 2015 after a long battle with cancer.
Aristeo enjoyed music of all kinds, waking up with music and going to bed with it as well. He played music all day long. Another passion was bowling, bowling up to 5 to 6 days a week until about 3 months before his passing. Aristeo participated in the Senior Olympics going to tournaments in California, Nevada, Texas, to name a few.
Aristeo is survived by his companion, Janice Carter; his son, Marc (Melanie) Strawn; grandchildren, Stormi White, Michael White, Alexandra Garcia, Alison Strawn, Alen Strawn, Aliyah Strawn; great grandchildren, Lila White, Jessica Garcia, Charlotte Garcia; sister, Beatrice Arias; brother, Albert (Kathie) Holguin; nephews, Tony, Leroy, Gabriel, Joshua, Jerry; nieces, Liz, Yvonne, Sarah, Veronica; 4 grand nephews and 6 grand nieces.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ramon and Herninia Holguin; his younger brother, Gerardo; his wives, Mabel (Betty) Holguin and Graciela Holguin; sister-in-law, Nora Holguin; brother-in-law, Antonio Arias.
Services in Alamogordo will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, at St. Jude Parish Catholic Church, 1404 College Ave. Rosary will be recited at 10:15 am with Mass celebrated at 11:00 am. Fellowship will follow from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, in Hurley, NM with burial at 2:00 pm at Fort Bayard National Cemetery.
