Annie Lorene (McCracken) Stirman Ison, 85, passed away surrounded by family on May 8, 2025, at Casa Arena Nursing Home in Alamogordo. Annie was born to Russell and Faye McCracken in Bernalillo, NM, on July 22, 1939. She attended Alamogordo High School and later completed her GED while living in California. She was married to Ernest “Sonny” Stirman for 18 years and there were four children from this marriage. She later married Jimmy Ison, and the couple shared 45 years of adventures in New Mexico; Anchorage and Bethel, Alaska; North Dakota; Oklahoma; and Texas; finally returning to Alamogordo.
Annie, known by some as Lorene, always had a ready smile and liked to joke that if the two of you got to talking long enough, you’d probably discover you were related in some way. She loved spending time with family and her toy poodles, Little and Big Sammy. She enjoyed country and western music, dancing, Mexican food, and playing cards. She painted beautiful ceramic pieces and crafted items which are treasured by the family and was a talented seamstress. Her employment included clothing retail, hotel clerk, bookkeeping with Hammack Welding Supply, and clerical work with the State of Alaska.
She is survived by son, Russell (Louise) Stirman of Nocona, TX; daughter, Rhonda Bauer (Tony) of Danbury, WI; three grandchildren, Jayna (Alex) Sinn of Hudson, WI, Megan (Cody) Williquett of Amery, WI, Jake Bauer (partner Jasmine Rothbauer) of Hudson, WI; two great grandchildren, Jade and Shepard Sinn; brother, Olin (Dotty) Hammack, Jr. of Talkeetna, AK; sister, Mary (Hammack) Dean of Alamogordo. She is preceded in death by her husband; two infant sons, Gary and Joel Stirman; her parents; stepfather, Olin Hammack, Sr.; brother, Kenneth McCracken; sister, June (McCracken) Beane.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at Casa Arena who lovingly cared for Annie for many years in the memory care unit.
Her children will host a tree planting ceremony and celebration of life on Memorial Day in Danbury, WI.
