Alice Mustian Wilson

Alice Mustian Wilson was born in Warren County, NC on October 10, 1930.  The youngest of six children, she was always busy on the farm, working, fishing and getting into mischief.  She left us at 90 years young, the way she lived, her way on September 9, 2021 in her home of more than 50 years.  

Alice graduated from Rex Hospital School of Nursing, Raleigh, NC in 1951.  She married Maurice Wilson of Afton, NC in 1955.  Stationed in Germany, she started her nursing career caring for Elvis Presley when he was hospitalized in Frankfurt with tonsillitis.  She never looked back, arriving at Holloman AFB in 1960. She was quickly involved with the care of the first U.S. astronaut for the Mercury space program, the chimpanzee named Ham.  Alice worked as a registered nurse at the Holloman AFB Clinic retiring in 1988.  She continued her career in nursing with Alamogordo Home Care and Hospice into her 80’s.  Her love of nursing was evident to the numerous people she helped.  Alice was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church, whether making seniors and children laugh as Jumpy the clown, making soup for the Bazaar, serving at Saturday Shared Table, or working on mission trips. She was always available to her friends and family and never met a stranger.  She spoke her mind, was kind, funny, and faithful.

Alice is survived by two daughters, Donna Smiley Wimbrow (Donald) of Warrenton, NC, Rebecca (Becky) Henne (Ross) of Tucson, AZ; one son, Dalton Wilson (Kara) of Charleston, SC; five grandchildren, Tonya Sconyers of Rocky Mount, NC, Natalie Smiley of Charlotte, NC, Ann McGlamery of Tucson, AZ, Kelsey Cooper of Ocean Pines, MD, and Davis Wilson of Overland Park, KS; seven great grandchildren, Samantha Sconyers, Teddy and Phoebe McGlamery, Caleigh Raye and Josie Lynne Cooper, and Eli and Leo Wilson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Wilson; parents, Walter and Panthea Mustian; two brothers, Irvin and Walter Mustian; three sisters, Ava Capps, Gladys Edwards and Irene Duncan; and her son-in-law, Theodore Smiley.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Grace United Methodist Church, 1206 Greenwood Lane with Reverend Kelly McCuaig officiating.

Interment will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Alamogordo Home Health Care and Hospice, 1859 Indian Wells Road.
