Alice Irene Bingel Miller joined her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, August 12, 2023. She was born November 9, 1934, in Monte Vista, CO to William and Irene Bingel.
She graduated from Farmington High School in 1952 and married her high school sweetheart, Emmett Miller, in November of the same year. After Emmett finished his service in the United States Navy, the couple and their new daughter, Kathy, moved to Las Cruces, NM for him to attend New Mexico State University. He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. The family then moved to Alamogordo, where Emmett worked at his chosen profession in different interesting assignments for over 35 years.
Alice was kept busy raising Kathy and two boys (Norman and Roger) who joined the family later. She remained active in their local church, First Presbyterian, serving in various capacities. She was also a Girl Scout leader and preschool teacher. Alice took an interest in computers, teaching herself to navigate through them as they became popular. She was glad to upgrade to newer versions as they came out. Her grandchildren enjoyed having Grandma's computer to "visit" when their schoolwork was done.
She and Emmett did some traveling around the Southwest in their modified RVs. On their journeys, she often found special books to share with her daughter's second grade students in frequent story times.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, William and Irene Bingel; her brother, Philip; the love of her life and husband of over 54 years, Emmett; and her two sons, Norman and Roger.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy and son-in-law, Tom Kearns of the family dome; grandsons, Darrell and wife Jennifer (Olathe, KS) and Keith and wife Kelly (Tamarac, FL); and 5 great grandchildren. She was especially grateful for the kindness of her caregiver, Sonya Cooper, in the last two years.
A Memorial Service for Alice Miller will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, September 15, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church in Alamogordo with Reverend James Baylor officiating.
The Miller family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the services.
