Alan Rabe

Alan Rabe, 73, passed away peacefully in his sleep, June 26, 2023, in Alamogordo, New Mexico after a long battle with cancer. Alan was a Navy Veteran as a propulsion and engineering mechanic who served during the Vietnam War. He was an accomplished black and white photographer taking and developing thousands of incredible nature related pictures.

Alan lived in a motor home and said it gave him the opportunity to meet many fascinating people on a very regular basis. Having earned a Bachelor's Degree in computer programming, his nomadic lifestyle had him traveling around the country doing contract computer work. When he decided to retire, he chose Alamogordo as his forever home because he loved the mountain vistas, agreeable climate and the small-town feel. 

Alan always rode his electric trike around the RV park greeting new arrivals, chatting with long-term residents, the park owners and staff on almost a daily basis. He had an infectious smile and easy-going personality that always set people at ease and lightened their daily concerns or hardships. Alan regularly frequented the local senior citizens center enjoying the lunches served there and often played pool and used the exercise equipment.

He loved cats and the local small wildlife. He always put out bird feeders and food for the smaller animals.  Alan had a big heart and was kind to everyone he met. For those of us who knew Alan, we will miss him.

The Rabe family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home.
