Lisa Marie Montoya

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lisa Marie Montoya, 61, on August 8, 2022, at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center in Alamogordo, NM.  She was born on March 3, 1961, in Alamogordo, NM to Demetrio H. Montoya Jr. and Patricia (Dorame) Montoya.  She was a life-long resident of Tularosa, NM. 

Lisa is survived by her son, Steven (“Stevie”) Chavez and life partner, Steve Chavez; mother, Patricia (Dorame) Montoya; siblings, David Montoya (Brenda), Judy Montoya Campbell (Dan), Sam Montoya (Latiza), Teresa Montoya Hopkin (Mike), and Deanna Montoya; nieces and nephews, David James (Charlotte), Jacob, Jenae, Julianna, Mia, Crista, Monique, Chezara, Carlitos, Elena, Quay, Truman, and Corvin; great nieces and nephews, Demetrius, Marcus, Aubryanna, Bryson, Matty Jo; numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles.
 
She is preceded in death by her father, Demetrio H. Montoya Jr. and niece, Adrianna.

Lisa survived a car accident in 1976 which resulted in her using a wheelchair for the remainder of her life as a quadriplegic.  Against all odds, she persevered, living a full and happy life, attending college for a short time and was the center of life for family and friends.  She cherished being a mother to her son, Stevie, and was the favorite “Auntie” to all her nieces and nephews. She was a loyal and treasured friend to extended family members and friends, and always made everyone feel welcome in her home.  

Lisa contributed generously to her community in many ways during her life.  She loved to organize and host birthday parties, family reunions, and holiday celebrations in her home.  She also loved music, and these gatherings often involved performances by family and friends. She organized fund-raisers for people in need.  Using her computer skills, she designed get-well cards for the sick members of the church community.  She was also a catechism teacher and an adoration coordinator for the church.  Lisa was a bright star in our family and her light will shine forever in our hearts. 

Services for Lisa will be held at St. Frances de Paula Catholic Church, Tularosa, NM on Thursday, August 18, 2022, with Rosary recited at 10:30 am and Mass celebrated at 11:00 am.  Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.  A reception will be held at the Parish Hall following burial.

The Montoya family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements.
