William Murphy Obituary

William H. Murphy, 94, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on December 23, 2022. He was born in Foss, Oklahoma on March 06, 1928, to Alta and Ed Murphy. Bill joined the USAF in December of 1945, spending the next 20 years between duty stations from North Africa to Germany, and finally Holloman AFB.

Bill married Mary Lea McMahon in October of 1950, and they were married for 66 years. He was preceded in death by Mary Lea and son, Billy (Linda). He is survived by daughter, Cynthia, (Scott); sons, Mike (Debra) and David (Karen); sister, Reba Dene Justice; grandchildren and great grandchildren who have all known his generous and loving nature.

Retired in 1966 from Holloman AFB, Bill opened the Gulf Service Station in the new Holiday Inn parking lot which he ran for years before switching careers again to manage Avis Rent-A-Car. After twenty years in the car business, he and mom hit the road working summers for the National Park Service in Wyoming and Oregon. They were a great team traveling to every state, except Hawaii, by motor home.

Dad was a lifelong Mason, past President of the Rocket Shrine Club, Elk, Traveling Elk, Moose, and NM Yellow Jackets Veterans Organization member.

In later life, dad was assisted by his friend and caregiver, Kathryn McMaster.
