Guadalupe Leal (G.L.) Fuentes, Jr, 72, passed away April 6, 2024, in Alamogordo, NM after a courageous battle with cancer. Visitation (2-4 pm) will be on April 15, followed by a service (4-5 pm). Both will be held at the Alamogordo Funeral Home, 2301 1st Street.
G.L. was born in Waco, TX, on June 23, 1951, to Guadalupe Leal Fuentes and Jackie Doris Burns. A talented mechanic, G.L. could fix anything. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1971, maintaining vehicles and aircraft all over the world. G.L. served in Operations Desert Storm, Desert Shield, and Provide Comfort.
After retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1991, G.L. began fixing everything in the civilian world. First, he worked on facilities and buses at Tularosa High School. He drove athletes by bus all over the state. After retiring from Tularosa schools, he then fixed tools and yard equipment at Home Depot.
G.L. was an extraordinarily kind man, always helping family, friends, and neighbors. He liked to hunt, fish, and keep the family fleet in top shape. He will be remembered and loved by all who knew him. He is survived by his family who supported him all over the world, Dolores, wife of 46 years; children, Stefanie, Tracy, Jeremy, David, and Erika; grandchildren, Roman, Jacob, Azriella, Ryan, Elena, Salem, Raelynn, Evelynn, and Aiden. Other survivors are numerous nieces and nephews, and his brother Rudy. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carol; and brothers, Milton, Charles, Don, Rosario (Ross), Robert, and Jackie.
The Fuentes family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
