Carol Hackett Obituary

Carol Jean (Echols) Hackett, 80, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2024, at her home. Carol was born on November 6, 1943, in Douglas, AZ, she was the beloved daughter of Ovida (Whisenant) Echols and Lester Echols. Throughout her life, she embodied grace, kindness, and unwavering strength.

Carol began her career as a legal secretary before becoming married and having children. She then went on to be a secretary for the Alamogordo Public Schools administration office. From there, she went on to be a legal secretary at the Otero County Courthouse until she retired. She was one of very few people left in the world who could take notes in shorthand.

Carol was known for her generosity and compassion. Even in the face of life's challenges, she lived each day to the fullest, embracing every moment with grace and resilience. She touched the lives of countless individuals with her warmth and wisdom.

As a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church, she served on many committees. Whether it was volunteering her time at the Church for shared table meals, dishwashing afterwards or providing rides for friends in the community to and from appointments, she had a unique way of making everyone feel loved and cherished.

She is survived by daughter, Donna (Hackett) Proctor and husband Chadd Proctor, son, Dean Hackett and fiancé Amalia Montoya; grandsons, Cody Proctor, Tyler Proctor and wife Courtney, Dustin Proctor, Colton Hackett, Mason Hackett; as well as many friends and extended family. She is preceded in death by her mother, Ovida (Whisenant) Echols and father, Lester Echols.

A celebration of Carol’s life will be held on Monday, April 8, 2024, at 10:00 am at Grace United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace United Methodist Church located at 1206 Greenwood Lane, Alamogordo, NM 88310.
